Liugong Island
NationalScenic Spot, National Key Cultural Relics Protection Site, National Classic Scenic Spot for Red Tourism, National Demonstration Base of Education in Patriotism, National Marine Park in Liugong Island and Base for Straits Exchange. Liugong Island is located at the easternmost end of Shandong Peninsula, inside the Weihai Bay. On Liugong Island, with rich and unique cultural landscape, there are not only relics in the Warring States which have a history of thousands of years and the beautiful legend of the Liu couple in the Han Dynasty, but also several war ruins of the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 such as the Admirals Department of Beiyang Navy, Naval Academy, and the Ancient Fort in the Qing Dynasty, along with the many European architectures left over from the British lease period, Liugong Island is often called "the east screen of Pan"and"the never sinking battle ship". The sea cliff in its north area is upright and steep, the south area is gentle and continuous with the forest coverage rate of 87%. This place has laudatory titles of "the sacred mountain in the sea" and "the land of idyllic beauty". The main attractions include the Chinese Sino-Japanese War Museum, Liugong Island National Forest Park, Liugong Island Expo Park, Liugong Island Whale Museum, Qiding Hill Fort, Donghong Fort, Iron Pier and so on.
